Roof Repair

Just because you have a leak doesn’t mean the roof is bad! Many times a full roof replacement is not warranted. Here are a few examples of common problems that can cause leaks.

  • Pipe jacks break down over time allowing water into an interior wall. The pipes are located anywhere the plumbing is vented through the roof. Over time, the rubber in the boot begins to break down and crack. Water stains on an interior wall are often undetected because the damage is hidden behind a vanity. When the repair is neglected, mold can develop creating a host of problems.

  • Caulking on exposed nail heads can fail from years of intense UV exposure from the sun

  • Crickets or saddles are often needed at a fireplace leak, and once installed the saddle diverts water away from areas where water intrudes or settles.

Roof Replacement

When replacing the entire roof, we take steps to make sure the roof will last many years. Here are the basic standard operating procedures for Altru Roofing.

  • We begin by addressing property protection that may have been previously discussed. If landscaping or outdoor fixtures need extra protection, it is addressed before the tearoff begins.

  • Tear off begins by removing everything from the roof. This is done to ensure the decking underneath all underlayment is in excellent condition. The decking is the foundation the roof is built upon, so we must make sure the foundation is solid.

  • If any decking is damaged, it is replaced to ensure a stable starting point.

  • Felt is applied to protect the decking

  • Drip edge is applied at eaves and rakes

  • Starter course is applied

  • The first course of shingles is applied according to manufactures specs

  • Ridge cap is applied to seal the roof

  • The roof is properly ventilated
